The titanic efforts in Azerbaijan to protect the rights of African countries affected by French neocolonialism have taken a break and returned to environmental issues.
In the West, the large-scale action, which turned into a complete blockade of the Lachin corridor and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) by Azerbaijan, was explained by “environmental reasons,” which are very understandable.
This time, Azerbaijani “environmentalists” have written a several-page letter to the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, demanding the closure of a number of enterprises in the country.
The fact that these “environmentalists” do not simply use the Azerbaijani place names of Armenian settlements, but consciously distort the reality by noting other Armenian cities with Azerbaijani names also testifies to the political subtext of this phenomenon.
These Azerbaijani “environmentalists” claim that “mining in the Republic of Armenia violates environmental stability in the South Caucasus region,” demand “to stop the mining works that are carried out in violation of international environmental norms and standards.”
There are 12 Armenian enterprises on this “list.” Moreover, in addition to the Kajaran and Kapan combines, the factories in Kotayk, Sotk, and Akhtala also have disturbed the Azerbaijanis. Furthermore, there is a demand to stop the construction of the Yeraskh factory. Regarding the latter, the Azerbaijani military makes no small efforts by shooting at this factory still under construction practically on a daily basis, as a result of which two Indian citizens were wounded.
But the most such demands are made regarding the Amulsar mine. To note, the Armenian environmentalists also have “many” questions regarding Amulsar, but with only one difference that in Armenia they demand not to start the operation of the mine, whereas in Azerbaijan they present the negative consequences of the “fait accompli,” clearly demonstrating that all other accusations are fabricated.
And while Azerbaijani authorities are busy with “resolving” the environmental issues of Armenia and Artsakh, they are arresting the villagers and activists demanding the closure of the harmful enterprise in Soyudlu village in Azerbaijan proper.
