Germany supports Armenia in various sectors, including in the democratic reforms and the political arena, the Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Germany in Armenia Erik Tintrup said on September 14.
Tintrup made the remarks during an event in the Armenian parliament where a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs and Berlin Economics.
“Germany supports Armenia, supports Armenian democracy, Germany supports Armenia’s democratic reforms, including economic reforms. Our support starts in the political arena, this is support to the peace process, as much as we can. Our support also includes humanitarian aid, which is very important. Two days ago we provided an additional two million euros to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its work in the region and Nagorno-Karabakh. Our support is also in economic cooperation,” he added.
Tintrup said that two weeks ago Germany and Armenia signed a financial cooperation agreement which envisages the provision of up to 12 million euros in financial support for a renewable energy project.
“The cooperation that we see today is highly important for us,” he said.
Berlin Economics has been cooperating with the Armenian government for a long time and the new agreement with the Armenian parliament committee envisages analytical and consultative services by Berlin Economics.
During the event, Berlin Economics also presented its studies on the economic impact that the reopening of the Armenia-Türkiye land border would have.
