NATO is currently not considering the possibility of expanding the alliance on the account of Armenia, and Yerevan itself has not applied for membership in this organization, Izvestia was told by NATO.
“[Austrian politician and public figure] Mr. [Gunther] Fehlinger has no official connection with NATO. He is not an employee of NATO, his views and opinions are his own and do not express the views of the alliance. And the ‘European Committee for NATO Enlargement,’ despite the name, is not a committee or a body of the alliance,” an official representative of NATO told Izvestia.
Also, the official representative stressed that NATO partners themselves should decide the level of their relations with alliance.
“There was no official application by Armenia to join the alliance. It is not a problem from our point of view, taking into account the long-term cooperation with other partner countries which do not seek to join the military bloc,” the latter’s official representative added.
