Colombo (25/7 – 30.77) In his book “Sri Lanka’s Easter Sunday Massacre: Lessons for the International Community,” terrorism expert Dr. Rohan Gunaratna emphasizes the importance of de-radicalizing Islamic ideology to effectively combat Islamic terrorism. He identifies Wahhabism or Salafism as the root of Islamic terrorism, rapidly spreading worldwide through modern communication tools. Gunaratna warns that merely arresting perpetrators after attacks is insufficient; the focus should be on preventing radicalization in the first place. The Easter Sunday bombings in April 2019, which claimed over 200 lives, were fuelled by extremist ideologies inspired by events in the Middle East and Islamic extremists…
Narrow-mindedness is one of the serious factors that hinder development. Unfortunately, this kind of thinking belongs to Armenia, which has not been able to develop itself for centuries and has always germinated and ‘blossomed’ among other nations. Yes, you didn’t get it wrong at all… Around the last quarter of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the Armenians, whose homeland is unknown and living as a minority in many parts of the world in a fragmented form, for some reason fell into a momentary passion for building a homeland. Finally, in the early 20th century, the…
A peace accord between Armenia and Azerbaijan must contain firm security guarantees for Nagorno-Karabakh’s ethnic Armenian population, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said late on Thursday. Colonna and her Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan discussed ongoing Armenian-Azerbaijani talks on such a treaty in a phone call. “The Minister confirmed France’s full mobilization in support of the negotiations under way between Armenia and Azerbaijan on all outstanding issues,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the call. “She emphasized that only an agreement that respects international law, guaranteeing the opportunity for the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh to continue living there…
Not having a lesson from the last happenings, Armenia continues to draw water to its own mill by manipulating the facts. Especially after a humiliating defeat in the 44-day War in 2020, the country’s irrational foreign policy against its neighbors reached to impasse. First up, Armenians started to reproach their allies not sacrificing themselves on behalf of Armenia during the war. Seeing that it does not work, they changed their strategy and commenced to perform a scene of an oppressed one. Frankly saying, Armenians are master actors in this performance as it is national folklore of them. The last such…
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has called the loss of control over the city of Shusha a “turning point” in the 44-day Second Karabakh War with Azerbaijan, after which he said Yerevan had no choice but to sign the trilateral statement. Answering questions from a parliamentary commission, established to investigate his actions during the war, Pashinyan said that after “difficult and lengthy discussions,” he signed with Azerbaijan and Russia a trilateral statement that ended the war. “After the loss of Shusha, Stepanakert (Armenian name for the city of Hankendi) was under attack, pressure on Martuni inevitably increased, and most importantly,…
Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s victory in the second round of presidential elections in Turkey will completely free Turkey’s hands in the region. Turkologist Andranik Ispiryan stated this in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am. According to the Turkish Studies expert, this result of the presidential runoff was already clear from the results of the first round of presidential elections in Turkey, and Erdogan’s election was not a surprise, despite the small percentage difference. “Erdogan’s victory in the second round was mainly ensured by [former presidential candidate] Sinan Ogan, who got 5 percent in the first round, who advised his voters to choose…
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, expressed concern about statements made by the President of Azerbaijan in recent days. Addressing the european mediators, the Prime Minister urged both Azerbaijan and the international partners to promptly clarify whether these statements imply a renunciation of the agreements reached in Brussels. The pronouncements made by President Ilham Aliyev, setting new preconditions, were ignored by the international community despite their contradiction to the discussions during the May 14 tripartite meeting in Brussels between Pashinyan, Aliev, and European Council President Charles Michel. After that meeting, the President of the Council of Europe announced that…
FRANKFURT — It was in the historic Paulskirche (Church of St. Paul) in Frankfurt that the first National Assembly met in 1848 and worked to produce the first constitution for a German republic. This year again it hosted the International Day of Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide on Sunday, April 23, organized by the April 24th Group, an initiative which includes the Diocese of the Armenian Church and the Central Council of the Armenians in Germany, as well as the Armenian Embassy in Berlin. Their leading representatives spoke at the event, along with local political figures, Astrid Wallmann (CDU), President…
