Sona Ghazaryan, an MP of the ruling majority “Civil Contract” Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, attended the Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) being held in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, the NA informed.
Ghazaryan on Thursday delivered an address at the APF Political Committee, and stated as follows, in particular:
“Dear attendees, as you know, Armenia is passing through great hardships, facing the biggest threats of security. Since 2021 Azerbaijan, grossly violating the principles of international law and the territorial integrity of Armenia, illegally has occupied the considerable part of our sovereignty.
“We highly appreciate the efforts of our Western partners, the US, the European Union, France and Germany, in the process of establishing peace, stability and security in the South Caucasus.
“In this context it is important to underline the decision of the European Council on deployment of the Civil Mission of the European Union in Armenia within the framework of common policy of security and defence, promoting the stability in the border regions of Armenia, ensuring the environment fostering the efforts for forming trust on the spot, the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Regrettably, Azerbaijan is even against this civil mission.
“I would like also to draw your attention to the fact of the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh – the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor. The Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh live in the conditions of full siege. About 30.000 children are deprived of the right to full education.
“We think that the problems of rights and security of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh should also be solved through the dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert, in the process of neutral involvement and introduction of any mechanism of peace implementation.
“A few days ago of our visit, the Azerbaijani armed forces again bombed with artillery devices and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) the positions of Nagorno-Karabakh, killing 4 soldiers.
“Azerbaijan permanently denies all efforts directed to peace, ignores the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the mandatory decision of the International Court of Justice and pursues evident policy of ethnic cleansings in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“We genuinely believe that democracy, rule of law, honouring human rights, peaceful co-existence are the pillars, on which the humankind should be based for living in peace and harmony,” Sona Ghazaryan said.
