The Human Rights Defender (ombudsperson) of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, on Thursday received Miroslav Papa, Director of Political Affairs and External Relations at the Council of Europe (CoE), and Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the CoE, the Office of the Human Rights Defender informs Armenian.
The ombudsperson presented, in particular, the state of protection of the rights of the residents of Armenia’s border settlements, the humanitarian consequences caused by the blocking of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, as well as the work being done to address these matters. In this context, Manasyan stressed that no political and territorial circumstance can prevail over the protection and guarantee of human rights.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors lauded the level of long-term and productive cooperation between the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia and the Council of Europe, and outlined the domains for expanding their cooperation in human rights.
